9 Star Ki is probably one of the oldest forms of astrology originating in early Chinese civilization and later expanding into Japan and the Western World.
There was an ancient universal understanding of ‘energy’, referred to as Ki by the Japanese, Chi by the Chinese, Prana by Hindus and Kaa by Egyptians. The belief was that the ‘energy’ had two basic natures, one of heaven or infinity - yang (cycles of seasons and climate), and the other of earth - yin (landscape, water, soil). These yin (feminine) and yang (masculine) qualities are behind the understanding of the 9 year cycles of change.
This ‘energy’ is filtered by 9 Stars from the universe to our galaxy to earth. The 7 stars of the Ursa Major Constellation (Great/Big Dipper or Great Bear) flanked by Vega (yin energy) and Polaris (yang energy). The Constellation acted as a compass pointing out a different direction each season changing the cosmic energy. In addition, the elements of the earth (fire, soil/earth, metal, water, and tree/wood) known as the five transformations describe the qualities of each of the nine star numbers. The ancient Book of Changes known as the ‘I Ching’ is one of the oldest books in the world and was to guide humanity as they navigated through life influenced by the forces of heaven and earth. This book is the basis for many things among them are Feng Shui and 9 Star Ki Astrology.
